World Cup Will Have To Wait For Orange Prodigy

By Mac Reith-Snare

After making her intentional debut in November last year, Orange hockey product Eva Reith-Snare was set to make 2020 her own.

Making the step up to play in Sydney’s top grade and wearing the captain’s band for her local club meant that this year’s season was going to be a little different.

But when she was running hill sprints during preseason training in February, Reith-Snare didn’t realise quite how different it would be.

“I certainly didn’t expect to have to wait until July to play my first game of club hockey for the year, that’s for sure,” Reith-Snare said.

Donning the green and gold against New Zealand, India and Japan in a three month span at the beginning of this year, the Orange hockey young gun thinks the unexpected break came at a good time.

“Coming into this season I’d played a lot of hockey in a short period of time and was actually keen for a break. I didn’t think it would take a pandemic to get it,” Reith-Snare joked.

With the junior World Cup looming at the back end of 2021, Reith-Snare was excited to use this year’s move to Sydney club Northern Districts as preparation for the tournamnet’s qualifiers.

Scheduled for October this year, the World Cup qualifiers have since been postponed to early 2021.

A decision that completely changes Reith-Snare’s outlook on the shortened 2020 season.

“Now that qualifiers have been pushed back, I just want to have fun this year and help my clubs win as many games as I can,” Reith-Snare said.

The Confederates Hockey club junior will suit up this weekend in the Central West Premier League against Bathurst St Pats.
