Sprung Show Springs Online

By Mackenzie Hastie

As the year begins to enter Spring, students at Charles Sturt University Bathurst begin to knuckle down for the crunch before exams.

Amidst the knuckling down is this years set of Sprung shows: run by students, Sprung showcases the talents of CSU’s Theatre/Media students & the original productions of students in their Final Year.

Marketing & Design Supervisor Roan Van Heekeren elaborated to us on what Sprung is all about.

Roan said that when it comes to Sprung, students are given complete creative freedom to write their stories, characters, themes and to design sets.

Initially there was concern over whether or not Sprung was something that could be put on this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic but a promotional video dropped on the 26th of August on their Facebook Page.

We also spoke to Lucas Murphy, Director & Writer for Garry Smith: Enlightenment on the details of his show & how Sprung will be running this year.

Some of the biggest challenges that the group have faced this year have involved the difficulties surrounding isolation & social distancing.

Due to the ongoing nature of the epidemic, Sprung will instead be completely online this year, with tickets able to be bought directly through the links on the Sprung 2020 Website.

As well as a series of shows, Sprung is encouraging those watching to enter their ‘House Reels’ challenge to make a short film of their own.
