If You Are At Risk, Why Are You Not Taking The Precautions Seriously

Key Points

  • Roughly 4,500 active cases in NSW
  • Being forced to wear a mask does not violate an individual’s human rights
  • Young people are taking to social media to express their frustration
  • The older generation is at risk but refuses to practice laws.

In light of Melbourne’s recent lockdown laws due to COVID people are taking to the streets to express their rights about face masks.

Melbourne is “forcing” people to wear masks when outside and restricting people from leaving isolation due to a spike of COVID cases. Many are not liking these laws and “protesting” their human rights as they think it is a violation.

What many are not realising is that wearing a mask, is to ensure compliance with this directive, and that the appropriate steps are being taken to protect the health of all citizens.

The older generation are the ones who are at risk of this virus and are the ones un-happy about these new laws.

While they have this mentality of “they’ve been through a few things before” many belive the crisis will pass and would prefer to live their lives as usual. Despite warnings of practicing social distantcing and avoiding large gatherings they still carry on with their daily activities and believe this is all a hoax.

“Our demographic is manly older people and many of them do not abide by our 1.5 meter distancing and get angry when we can not seat them due to our limited capacity. Not only that, they get very defensive when we need them to sign in as they think the government will track them” said Laura who is a waitress at Harvest cafe and Store in Bathurst.

Laura also said she gets distraught when we have to turn people away because they refuse to abide by the restrictions put in place for everyone’s health and safety.

Not only are there roughly 4,500 active cases in NSW, but 683 are also linked to aged care facilities. The people who visit these facilities such as parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, have a significant risk of dying.

While Gen Z is doing their best to speak out about their concerns and follow the news to understand how to keep the community safe, it is as simple as following government issued laws and using common sense in an epidemic.

You wear a seatbelt while driving as it is required by law to keep you safe no matter how uncomfortable it is. It is now required to wear a mask when outside to save lives and protect your health no matter how uncomfortable.

If you are sick, stay home, get tested and wait for the results at home
