The human health is important, in oprder to survive and maintain a sustainable lifestyle. Susanna is a clinical dietitian at the Bathurst Hospital. Her Job is to see all the patiants who are admitted into hospiotal to who may have nutritonal issues. She sees to those who need help with eating, wouinf healing, malnutrition, diabetes, and nearly diagnoses such as diabetes and eating disorders.

“The main problem right now is for older people and that is malnutrition in hospitals,” says Susanna.

Malnutrition is the biggest cost for the health service as it takes the longest to cure

Bathurst is lucky that it has local producers and fresh food and vegetables, however COVID proved to be harming on many peoples health especially through food. What many health experts witnessed was not only a spike in anxiety and stress, but also a spike in eating disorders.

Out of the 15 different LHD’s in NSW, Western NSW (Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo) was the 6th worst area for vegetable consumption at only 6.4% of respondents eating the recommend daily vegetable intake.

In recommended daily fruit consumption, Western NSW was 3rd worst behind Far Western NSW (Bourke, Broken Hill) at 30.4% and Nepean Blue Mountains at 34.2%.

Western NSW was at 35.2% of respondents eating the recommended daily serving of 2 serves of fruit.

“The main thing is to get back to basics… Having that balance of vegetables, proteins and carbs…. the balance of discretionary extras… making them a sometimes food…. and getting back into moderation, go for the Friday drinks at the pub, but don’t make it a daily habit.”
