Residents in Tasmania are not overly concerned by Scott Morrison’s comments that he wants states and territories to work towards reopening their borders by Christmas.

Despite the Prime Minister’s plea, some Tasmanian’s only want to open the state when it is safe to do so.

Tasmania currently has no active cases of Covid-19, but residents are concerned that opening the Tasmanian borders may lead to a return of COVID-19 cases in the state.

For Hobart resident and nurse Amanda Dyer, she wants the government to only open their borders when they believe it’s safe to.

“I want Tasmania to take its time reopening and only open when we all know it will be overly safe for everyone,” Amanda Dyer said.

Many other Tasmanian residents agree that Tasmania should only open when it’s safe, despite the federal governments urge that state governments should work to reopen their borders.

Scott Morrison believes Christmas is ultimately the perfect time for states to open their borders.

“What we have to work to do is let Australians know that by Christmas, that they will be able to come together,” Scott Morrison said.

While residents want everything to open back up eventually, most believe that we need to get it right, so we don’t have to go back into lockdown.

“I want us to get it right this time so we don’t have to go back into a situation where we might have to all go back into lockdown,” Amanda Dyer said.

Tasmania State Premier Peter Gutwein recently delayed plans to reopen it’s borders due to the outbreak in Victoria.

Tasmania officially declared Covid-19 free.
