Due to the setbacks the football community has faced due to the COVID19 pandemic, a new competition has been announced in the city of Newcastle.
Sports Clique announced plans to host a small-sided football competition in what would be called the Newcastle Cup, in December this year as a way to showcase and celebrate the football in this area and make up for time missed due to the lockdown. The two-day event is set to take place over a weekend and have players of all ages from across the Hunter participate.
Each game will run for thirty minutes, played on half a normal field-sized pitch, and every team is guaranteed 5 games minimum before heading into final. The event will be for all the family, with entertainment and food stalls at each of the playing grounds, keeping people happy both on and off the field.
Edgeworth Eagles NPL player Aaron Oppedisano says that playing some more local football in Newcastle is just what the sporting community needs.

The Newcastle Cup organisers are currently taking expressions of interest from football clubs around the area.
