As you may have heard over the last month, there have been fears that TikTok could be banned in Australia over security concerns.
If you don’t know what TikTok is, it is a video sharing app that has risen in popularity over the coronavirus lockdown period and was developed by the Chinese company, ByteDance.
The app is being investigated over national security and spying concerns, as questions of where users’ data is being stored and how it is being used were raised by politicians.
As there are many Australian TikTok users, a ban would impact a fair amount of people across the country.
What everyday users think of the ban
Some TikTok users enjoy the app and use it to escape their current realities and therefore would hate to see the app go, while others don’t mind either way as it is just some fun to fill in time.
After asking a few frequent users I found that the initial reactions weren’t the same as how they really felt when they thought about it further.
“I wouldn’t like it to start with but it’s just something to pass the time and there are a lot of other apps around for that,” one user had to say.
How TikTok creators have responded
There have been a few content creators on TikTok who have created TikTok videos addressing the potential ban, including those who don’t care too much about the rumour.
